This the first time I have grown an overwintering mange tout. Winterkefe is held by Pro Specie Rara in Switzerland and is a fine European heritage variety. Yummy too! Chelsea Green Publishing Rob Smith Arche Noah Grow With Joe Garden Organic

I do like harvesting peas early. These are a mange tout called Winterkefe, a traditional over-wintering variety from Switzerland that grow to 2 metres (as you can see 😂😂). I hope to have my first taste in early May 🤞🤞

The Kenyan government is criminalising indigenous farmers for saving and sharing their own seeds. The government needs to stop this crazy state of affairs.

Even if you saw the show last year it is worth watching again. I shall, for sure. And if you haven't seen it then make your Friday night special and switch on the telly this evening!

First flower of my go-to overwintering pea Douce Provence. I have been saving the seed for the last 20 years and it seems to be earlier every year. Yummy too 😋

These are seed of a pepper I discovered in a Moroccan oasis in 2007. Proof if needed that seeds when kept dry, cool and in the dark can remain viable for years. Will grow alongside recently saved seed to see if it has changed at all

Every year it seems I am having to plant up biannuals like these Heritage Seeds UK beetroot Dobies Purple earlier. Lifted last November I would normally transplant in late February to grow on for seed 🤞for a good harvest in September

A vision of hope and deliciousness to come. The first flowers emerging from my Burmese broad bean and it’s still only January. The earliest one I grow from seed that was being thrown away by a seller in Hsipaw. Now safe in my garden

Great to hear Heritage Seeds UK Catrina Fenton and fellow Seed Guardian on BBC News (UK) World at One. 👍👍👍 If you missed it it ran at about 33 minutes into the programme. Enjoy!

A very happy to one and all. My favourite day of the year because from now on the days get longer. Onion seeds sown and shallots planted up in old compost in the greenhouse. Planted on the shortest day to be lifted on the longest!
