Few things are as inevitable as the word โ€œbattleโ€ appearing in the obituary for a patient who died of cancer

But we need to reframe the disease in a manner that does not imply cowardice or ignobility for level-headed refusal of treatment

Canada has lost an incredible cancer advocate. I learned a lot by reading Jason's tweets and interacting with him. I will miss him.

A reminder that continuing to host academic conferences in states which have effectively outlawed abortion is sexist and discriminatory. tpr.org/news/2024-03-2โ€ฆ

I once met Mel when I was interning at The Times and The Sunday Times and there was an event at the science media center. He took an hour out of his day to talk to me about survivorship, science communication...now I'm one of the patient partners on his leukaemia prevention project! He's amazing.

I'm being bombarded by questions (quite understandably) about why any patient would undergo chemotherapy if a surgery had successfully removed their cancer

I struggled to come to the same understanding when I was first being trained as an oncologist

This does not surprise me and it's incredibly grating. People clamouring to find out what type of cancer she has so they can inevitably postulate about her chances of surviving it or not.

None of anyone's business!

A reminder that a person with cancer does not have to become an advocate for anything. They are not obliged to talk about their experiences during, or after their treatment for any reason unless they want to.

With measles surging again, I urge my fellow childhood cancer survivors to check that they were re-given their childhood vaccines post treatment. I was but only for some of them...was an adult before I found out titers were low/non existent and got revaccinated.

If you haven't had chance, do please complete our survey to help identify the challenges relating to patient partner compensation in research. We are looking for a range of perspectives from people with lived experience, to researchers, to institutional financial or legal experts

Happy to share work from my postdoc The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) Uri Tabori. We used patient-derived stem cells, organoids and genomics to explore the functional consequences of biallelic deletions in EPCAM=Tissue specific DNA mismatch repair and cancer predisposition!
