This recurring argument is wrong because nothing 'suddenly' happened to obesity in the 1980s. Weight increased linearly the whole time.

Because 'obesity' is an arbitrary BMI threshold, its prevalence changes non-linearly even if the underlying rate of increase is unchanging.

Earthworms in North America were virtually wiped out by ice sheets in the last ice age and the ecosystem subsequently evolved to do without them. Most earthworms in the USA now are non-native invasives.

Not many people know that.
