Stroodle the grey seal pup rescued two months ago who lost his scalp after bird pecks became infected is making the most incredible recovery. We never imagined he would heal so well and so fast. Now he’s in the big pool getting better by the day. What courage!

Last weekend the storms calmed enough to release Lulu, the grey seal pup from St Ninian’s Isle. She was just 9kgs on arrival, the smallest grey we’ve ever had, and 35kgs on release. Reluctant to go out to sea, but once she got it there was no stopping her!

Stroodle the grey seal pup continues to make a miraculous recovery after losing his scalp when bird peck wounds to his head became infected. Now all he cares about is eating as much fish as he can, which is the best sign we could have wished for.

The lovely Lulu gets plumper and rounder by the day. Frustrated at having to be isolated in a small pool due to seal pox, it won’t be long before she can go out to sea and have all the space she could ever want.

Stroodle the magnificent grey seal pup has astonished us after all the skin slid off his scalp when the original infection spread. Despite our fears, he seems to be healing up on antibiotics and has now built up a major appetite. He may be with us for some time.

Stroodle the grey seal pup rescued from storms last weekend is really struggling with terrible head wounds that keep getting bigger. We trust his fighting spirit with antibiotic help will see him through, but it’s a painful journey to witness and work with.

Our two seal pups Boots and Dotty returned to the ocean waves on a glorious day of snow and sunshine after arriving here from Orkney a couple of months ago. The big fat blubber balls were more than ready for the wild. Go girls go!

Our tiny grey seal pup Lulu has seal pox and so she has to be isolated in a pool on her own to protect our other residents. There is no treatment, it just has to run its course. But she seems happy enough.

Skye, the grey seal pup washed up in last week’s storms is slowly recovering from his injuries. He’s just started using his right front flipper and the swelling on his rear flipper’s going down. Soon he’ll be outside getting fat and fit for the wild.

Our new arrival Stroodle is covered with nasty wounds on his head. Not sure how they got there, but hopefully he’ll recover soon with antibiotics, salt water baths and plenty of rest.

This latest storm victim was found at Scousburgh Sands this morning. Found by Sam Adamson and family, spotted again by Eunice Isbister, fetched by SSPCA’s Siân Graham and now recovering at the sanctuary. Battered, bruised and pecked by birds, meet Stroodle.

A sad day: Norway has become the first country in the world to move forward with commercial-scale deep-sea mining.

The bill passed on Tuesday, concerns Norwegian waters, but agreement on mining in international waters could also be reached this year.

Boots, the grey seal pup who arrived from Orkney recently, is getting to grips with eating fish in water. Soon she’ll be ready to join Dotty outside. Just need this storm to pass.

Toughest rescue yet - 2 cubs stuck 3 metres up a big, steel pipe. SSPCA inspector Vhairi Graham and otter expert John Moncrieff hauled them out with a long handled broom. An incredible effort saved their lives. Otto and Tammy now safe at the sanctuary.

We released our two common seal pups Izzy and Lucy this week, three months after they were rescued. Now four times the weight when they arrived at the sanctuary, they now have enough in reserve while they learn to catch their own food.

Our two common seal pups Izzy and Lucy are ready for the wild. We just had to get Lucy to eat fish independently. She’s learned at last, and they’re both big and fat so they’re ready! Not long to go now.

Our two peerie selkie pups getting used to life in the big pool. Izzy has outpaced Lucy and gone from being the smallest to the biggest of the pair. She’s also the first to start eating fish independently - it can be a bit messy!

Our three wee seal pups Izzy, Oscar and Lucy are still piling on the pounds as they play padding pool politics getting used to being in the water together.

Our 3 selkie pups have finally started piling on the weight after we boosted the cod liver oil in their diet. Such a relief after the two little ones Izzy and Oscar were struggling to grow. They are all very inquisitive, Izzy even climbed into the freezer!
