Sadiq Khan’s decision to push ahead with ULEZ has been utterly vindicated. Meanwhile those Tories and their media cheerleaders who seized on a single by-election result to dump climate commitments have been made to look ridiculous, as well as cynical, reckless and irresponsible.

This has been a bad couple of days for UK political journalism. So much self-referential, unsubstantiated gossip. I got the gossip too, but you don't have to publish it. So much attention to undeclared results, so little analysis of policy. Such bad extrapolation.

Uxbridge very helpfully lulled the Tories into taking a political position that in most places is useless or actively repellent, but in the process there has been significant policy damage.

It's worth remembering that the Conservatives expected that changing the voting system for mayors to first-past-the-post would *help* the Tory candidates.

That has not proved to be the case so far for Hall, who is badly underperforming vs Bailey's first preferences.
