Just as a point of principle here we don’t have an electoral system where a media organisation gets to call anything, we wait for Marjorie from the council office to call it from a dais in a sports hall, and everything else is just speculation until we hear from her.

The good thing about Susan Hall making the mayoral election a referendum on ULEZ expansion is that we now have the result of the referendum on ULEZ expansion.

Sadiq Khan’s decision to push ahead with ULEZ has been utterly vindicated. Meanwhile those Tories and their media cheerleaders who seized on a single by-election result to dump climate commitments have been made to look ridiculous, as well as cynical, reckless and irresponsible.

This has been a bad couple of days for UK political journalism. So much self-referential, unsubstantiated gossip. I got the gossip too, but you don't have to publish it. So much attention to undeclared results, so little analysis of policy. Such bad extrapolation.

Uxbridge very helpfully lulled the Tories into taking a political position that in most places is useless or actively repellent, but in the process there has been significant policy damage.

Tories have apparently asked for a bundle check in Birmingham - as anyone familiar with counts will tell you, this is a Hail Mary pass - you've lost by a lot and you are hoping for a big error to reverse it.

So what was the point of those reports/rumours that Hall had won London - when obviously nobody knew, and it was too late to influence anything? Just Trumpian making stuff up?

'It's clear tonight' is a very bad analysis for such a senior journalist. It was only 'clear' to anyone taken in by right wing bots and GB News/Guido Fawkes partisan pundits

No BBC journalist should ever boost that stuff

It's worth remembering that the Conservatives expected that changing the voting system for mayors to first-past-the-post would *help* the Tory candidates.

That has not proved to be the case so far for Hall, who is badly underperforming vs Bailey's first preferences.

Totally extraordinary Twitter ad for some grim AI ‘therapy’ app. Shitty AI video; shitty AI song; copyright theft. It’s got the lot. But there’s no shame. It’s like they’re selling the flaws of AI as their USP.

*Its all the fault of Government * is not a view I share. Woodhill is modern, not overcrowded and until recently part of the best resourced high secure estate. It’s an attitude of current management, part of the problem and disrespectful to the families of all those who died.

Of course (many) people got over ChatGPT.

Because (a) it is unreliable, (b) it makes stuff up, and (c) it was wildly overhyped.

What did you expect?

PS It’s not that humanity “adapted”, Peter H. Diamandis, MD, it’s that a lot of people eventually figured out that they had been sold…
