Editorial Board @dissentmag. Think I started trend of labeling modern US Right as “revanchist.” Charming in person, but we’re not there. Also NBA/Warriors.

Pro-tip to my New York University leaders, from a historian of social movements, protest, and politics. Don't make the mistake of calling in the police to arrest students for peacefully protesting. It will backfire in all sorts of ways.

It’s too late to put the genie back in the bottle, but legalization was a mistake and at the very least we need far-reaching federal regulation of sports betting. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Characteristically excellent Ian Millhiser piece. But Trump hasn't yet won on running out the clock. There's still time for SCOTUS to get the election interference trial back on track for a verdict by Election Day: justicecantwait.org

It’s like in The Sopranos—Tony tells a guy to whack a guy and then the guy whacks the guy and then Tony whacks the first guy.

In his new book, 'Taking America Back' David Austin Walsh plumbs the prehistory of MAGA, how--contrary to the 'never Trump' narrative-- 'mainstream' conservatives never purged the hard right. My author interview explores what he found. 1/19

Aside from the usual, one of the reasons the private universities are getting so much attention in the Israel/Gaza stuff is because the crackdowns politicians are trying to get the private universities to do would be first amendment violations if public universities did them.

Key point.

Columbia isn’t allowing proper access to reporters — some limited workarounds — and all sorts of nonsense, including confusing inside and outside of the university, is circulating.

A student protest is going national on the basis of very distorted impressions.

37 Democrats voted against yesterday's Israel aid bill. Does it matter? I spoke to some of them.

Podhoretz—who blocked me years ago because, iirc, we disagreed about the literary merits of Thomas Pynchon—has made a living despising the political views of the majority of US Jews. He ought to know that a lot of “Jewish kids” don’t agree with his version of Jewishness.

Harsh, but fair. Starbucks Workers United thus far has been an almost ideal hybrid, at least viewed from the outside. Workers should self organize as much as possible and established parent unions should prove financial/logistical/legal support

One reason Trump is holding up well with more politically disengaged voters is he benefits from the perception among confused people that he has nothing to do with Dobbs.

Historic hours here at Labor Notes convention. UAW win at VW culminates decades of work by dedicated partisans of union democracy and labor militancy. And the 4,500 plus attendees here will spread the winning message far and wide.

During the Columbia takeover of 68, Dwight Macdonald hosted Mark Rudd, Tom Hayden, Norman Mailer, and others in a meeting on radical strategy.

A rare convergence of the New York Intellectuals with the New Left.
