A short time ago members of 299 Parachute Squadron deployed to Cyprus on peacekeeping duties as a part of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP), in support of 4 PARA.

The main role of UNFICYP is to maintain the integrity of the buffer zone.

299's OC's Challenge took place at Catterick Training Areas (CTA) earlier this month, with troops tackling 26 miles of tabbing in a session lasting 36 hours!

They had to complete a series of tasks, culminating in an epic final attack.

Last week Cpl C from 299 Para obtained his 'E' qual along with a cohort of regular counterparts.

The course teaches soldiers how to safely supervise Live Fire Tactical Training (LFTT) under different conditions and circumstances, including section attacks and night firing.

2Lt M recently completed his SF3 on Exercise Snow Sapper in the Austrian Alps.

The course consisted of ski touring, route planning, avalanche drills and alpine navigation.

Exercise Snow Sapper is an annual event ran at Corps level open to all members of 299 Para Sqn.

Last night's training consisted of a refresh in nav and fire control orders, with a little bit of PT thrown in for good measure.

Well done to 2nd Lt McDowell and LCpl Greenwood on their recent achievement. Both have been putting plenty of training in to conquer the beast that is P-Company.

During a close-quarters gunfight, every second counts. Quickly transitioning to a sidearm in the event of weapon stoppage, all while moving forward, could be the difference between life and death.

This weekend saw the Squadron attend a ranges package at Queen Elizabeth Barracks, Strensall.
The training package included the ACMT, followed by GPMG and pistol shoots.

P Company Post Series - 3rd Post:
The dreaded log race - often regarded as one of the more difficult tests during P Company.
This is a team event (8 soldiers to a log), in which candidates carry a 60kg log over 1.9 miles of punishing terrain.

On the 28th September 1975, ten Sappers from 131 Parachute Sqn Royal Engineers were killed during Exercise Trent Chase.

Four members of the Sqn have recently returned from regimental adventure training in California.

Lt A and Cpl S undertook the accelerated freefall course which took them from zero freefall time to obtaining their skydiving 'A' Licence in 18 jumps.
