Important data. New research findings indicate most deaths linked to an inpatient ward are by people on authorised leave and this proportion has increased over time. A period of short-term leave can be a central in treatment, family connection, recovery. cambridge.org/core/journals/…

34% of men who died by #suicide in middle-age had been bereaved by the death of a parent (66; 27%), family member or partner (24; 10%), or friend (6; 2%). 19(8%) had experienced multiple bereavements & 14 (6%) had been bereaved by suicide. For 82% bereavement was >3m earlier.

How do we ensure trauma informed practices are sustainable at the point of crisis #mentalhealth care? What is the best way to prevent health workers doing safety planning in a perfunctory and therefore ineffective manner? Two key questions that drive an important week ahead.
