Pls correct inaccuracy circulating in MSM, including by CNN -- those arrested in the first roundup at Columbia University WERE ALL STUDENTS. About 26 Columbia students & about 58 Barnard College students arrested & suspended.

Others were from other schools AT COLUMBIA. No outside

Worth noting that the NYPD has yet to release any information or data on the so-called 'outside agitators' or which of those arrested aren't students, but have edited this short film from the protests

I want to be very clear that Maya Wiley practiced complete electoral negligence held no canvasses after all the endorsements switched to her & vanished the second election was over - I consider her and Adams both to be villains

Subtle language change here, from 'outside agitators' to 'agitators.' Still awaiting official NYPD breakdown of how many arrested at Columbia and CCNY were students vs non-students

southpaw Atrios This is like the NYPD going on national TV, dropping a large slice of pizza folded in half on the desk and announcing to the world “no New Yorker would do this, this is clearly the work of professional outside agitators.”

The NYPD sees its own citizens as a force to be triumphed over. In the absence of any real foreign adversaries to fight like real soldiers, they must act as if university students are their enemies in a war for civilization.

Mayor Eric Adams Edward A. Caban Dep Commissioner Rebecca Weiner says students didn’t come into school knowing how to barricade themselves in buildings. I would push back on this; we started doing active shooter drills in high school post-Columbine and 9/11 and were told to push tables and chairs. And I’m old.

The NYPD has also begun encrypting their radio transmissions.

When the police and universities block the press, but the head of the NYPD’s press office rolls up to scene on the roof of an MRAP truck, the narrative will only be controlled by NYPD NEWS

Columbia's student radio station, WKCR-FM NY, deserves a broadcast journalism prize for its live coverage of the impending police raid of the campus.

I think the piece of this that makes me angriest is how obvious it is that Adams is governing the city on behalf of people who don't live here. New York residents know that this is a normal bike lock here. Whoever his audience is for this, it isn't NYers.

In a year Shafik will be speaking to Davos from a cushy World Bank post about global citizenship or whatever. Students protesters will be navigating hellish legal battles, maybe still nursing injuries and trying to figure out how to pay off tens of thousands of dollars in debt

“It’s despicable that schools would allow another country’s flag to fly in our country,” Mayor Adams says - a shocking message from someone who raises other country’s flags over Bowling Green to honor their people ALL THE TIME.

It’s wild that this is the main narrative we would have without WKCR, whose broadcast is buckling under the flood of listeners

NYPD officials have spoken often recently of their intent to “control the narrarive” by building out their own media apparatus. In practice, that looks like barring reporters from public streets adjacent to a mass arrest action, then posting videos like this
