Women and girls fleeing crisis in their home countries are at high risk of being trafficked as well as being vulnerable to experiencing other forms of VAWG. A gendered approach is required to mitigate the heightened risks faced by women and girls fleeing crisis.

Despite women making up 51% of the population in Scotland, there is a lack of gender balance in many sectors & women are underrepresented in positions of power & leadership. Gender inequality is the root cause of VAWG so tackling this is key to eliminate gender based violence.

Children and young people experiencing VAWG can face barriers to accessing recovery support. A children's rights approach is needed to tackle VAWG with the voices of CYP being heard and listened to.

An international campaign which calls for the elimination of violence against women and children is under way in Aberdeen with various events being held over 16 days from Sat 25 Nov.

On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women CountingDeadWomen will be commemorating women killed by men or where a man is principal suspect since IDEVAW last year.
They start at 8am and name one woman every five minutes.
