Amazing opening set by Genevieve Carver - on worry dolls, menopausal whales & menstruating elephant shrews ✨
✔️Delivered. I loved working towards tonight’s Festival of Debate event in collaboration with Sheffield Museums and Terrence Higgins Trust. An exceptional panel of speakers with an enriching exhibition to accompany.
'When we talk about turning our anger into action, look at our book 'Our Stories Told By Us'. It was written to celebrate the African contribution to the HIV response in the UK.'
– Winnie Sseruma, author and HIV activist 💬
OurStoriesToldByUs
'To put it into context, if we manage to stop new infections of HIV by 2030, it will be the first time that an infection is stopped without a vaccine or cure'
– Richard Angell 🇺🇦, CEO of Terrence Higgins Trust at Sheffield Museums 💬
Before today's event, Richard Angell 🇺🇦 of Terrence Higgins Trust gave panellists a tour of the new quilt for Terry Higgins, the first publicly named person to die of an AIDS-related illness in the UK.
It's been on display at Sheffield Museums since October, and is now headed for Fitzrovia Chapel.

Enjoying reading this Now Then Magazine story by Mwinji Siame.
Language as a site of resistance to physical and mental borders:
The guest writer examines her childhood filled with many languages and a plurality that resisted colonial imaginations and borders.

Excellent event from Festival of Debate this evening, discussing the University of Sheffield's funding of the arms trade. Quality research revealed the (staggering) scale of complicity. Good also to discuss different approaches to resistance including trade unionism and direct action
We've just wrapped up our FoD x Give Over event at the lovely Utopia Theatre - some passionate discussion on the University of Sheffield's multi-million pound links to the arms trade
