Love this podcast episode, where Jesse and Rob keep trying to talk Akshat into climate socialism and he’s just like “nah, just shape capitalism” podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/shi…

Good news, climate folk. Delhi’s roads are being taken over by electric mopeds & e-rickshaws 🛵🪫

Why has the transition to small green vehicles been so swift in India and what can the rest of the world learn from it? 💚

Can capitalism solve the climate crisis? Is the drive for profit the hero of the story, or simply an expedient incentive by which policy can wrestle capitalists into working for the public interest? I'm excited to share our first LIVE episode of SHIFT KEY featuring Bloomberg…

Don't miss this examination of Climate Capitalism from gentle but persistent Robinson Meyer and the systems thinker Jesse D. Jenkins.

I twisted all my brain muscles and was glad to have climate capitalist Sophie Purdom to bank on for support.

Unbleached reefs this year are coloured blue.

This is the most widespread and most severe mass bleaching and mortality event ever recorded on the Great Barrier Reef.

Which countries lost the most forest area between 2001 and 2021?

Brazil comes in first 🥇with 517,464 km2 lost. Two significant drivers of deforestation in Brazil have been pasture expansion (for beef) and soy production (mostly for livestock feed).

'The Court found that Article 8 of the Convention encompasses a right to effective protection by the State authorities from the serious adverse effects of climate change on lives, health, well-being and quality of life.'

So expect a lot more of these climate cases

Photovoltaics is the first major electricity generation technology that doesn't involve making a turbine go round. To be fair, wind and hydro use turbines but not steam.

[This is not an anti nuclear or really anti anything post, I'm good for explanations thanks].

Today has been absolutely brutal, like eyes and throat irritatingly brutal. Haven't seen a day like this in a while. Kathmandu tops the world's most polluted cities today.

Could be because of the raging wildfires apparently, & there's no rainfall in sight for the coming week.

New paper🚨

“Global CO2 emissions for 2023 increased by only 0.1% relative to 2022 (following increases of 5.4% and 1.9% in 2021 and 2022, respectively)…

…Although the trend is upwards, the pace of growth has been slowing, suggesting GLOBAL EMISSIONS MIGHT HAVE PLATEAUED.”

This is madness.

Yesterday’s low temperature of +22.5°C (+72.5°F) in Biarritz was the highest minimum temperature ever recorded in France 🇫🇷 for the month of April. In fact, +22.5°C was one of the highest minimum temperatures ever measured at this station (for any month).

Egypt and gas

2018: Turned from an importer of gas to an exporter. Why? Higher production from Zohr field

2024: It's importing gas again. Reasons? (1) Falling gas output; (2) Higher consumption
