William Shakespeare is believed to have been born here #OnThisDay in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon.

By the 1840s, it was split into a pub, a butcher’s and a tenement and had severely decayed.

Using an early drawing from 1769, it was extensively restored by the Birthplace Trust.

Looking back with Mrs Ida Gandy to April 1908, when the weather in Wiltshire was 'the worst in living memory'. Snow a foot deep around Aldbourne, drifts up Stock Lane and Baydon Hill five to six feet deep. On 6 April 2008 we wondered if it was all going to happen again.
