At Westminster Energy Forum’s post-COP review where Catalina Jaime 🌾 Climate Centre is speaking - linking climate with conflict & humanitarian impacts

I have come back to #COP28 , because we are on the brink of climate disaster & this conference must mark a turning point.

I am here to renew my urgent appeal to leaders:

Recommit to the 1.5°C warming limit.

End the fossil fuel age.

Deliver climate justice.

Make #COP28 count.

Midnight end week 1 #COP28 historic Loss & Damage Fund & SNLD agreed, launch of Declaration on Climate Relief Recovery & Peace plus the Charter on Financing Ahead of Disasters. But worrying gaps & urgent action needed on adaptation with little movement on GGA & adaptation finance

With every increment of warming:

The risks, impacts & related losses & damages escalate.

Adaptation options are becoming more constrained & less effective.

What our future will look like depends on the choices we make today.

The situation in Gaza is unacceptable.

There is no safe place to stay.

There is lack of food, water, medicines, fuel.

People are risking their lives every minute.

Civilians, hospitals, healthcare workers must be protected. It is not negotiable.
It is a legal obligation.

Did you know: more than 50% of emergencies are predictable; but only 1% of financing is pre-arranged or anticipatory.
Consequence: real people lose everything in an emergency, when funding for preparedness could have avoided that. We need to change. British Red Cross 🧡
