Deadly floods are wreaking havoc across large swathes of east Africa.

Hundreds of thousands have been displaced and around 100 people have lost their lives in Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi.

In Saka, Tana River County, we evacuated 24 people to safety last night.

The individuals were surrounded by raging waters during the day and were unable to access the mainland for safety.

All are now safe.

⚠️ Kenya's Tana Delta water level at critical 4.5 meters, submerging villages.

Residents near the river urged to evacuate to higher ground.

Kenya Red Cross launched an additional rescue boat to bolster response efforts.

Kenya is facing a worsening flood crisis due to the combined effects of El Niño and the ongoing March-May 2024 long rains.

Since November 2023, El Niño triggered devastating floods and river overflows, causing more than a hundred deaths and widespread damage.

Red Crescent volunteers are on the move to inform and assess the city's most vulnerable for further support.

They are maintaining cooling stations for city dwellers to cool down with🥤safe water &❄️cool breezes amidst the ongoing #HeatWave in 🇧🇩.
