Very sad to learn of the death of the historical novelist CJ Sansom, shortly before his Shardlake series is on our TV screens. I rated him more highly than I did Hilary Mantel’s series, also set in the time of Henry Vlll. His Winter in Madrid also exceptionally fine.

I hadn't realised this news had reached the press. I think Rosie Duffield MP will agree with me that using the word 'troll' to describe men who make explicit death threats against women minimises both the offence and the effect on the recipients.

Having experienced the trauma of a stalker who had to be shut down by legal means, and having received my own death threats, I stand 100% with J.K. Rowling.

A 'troll' does not threaten to kill a woman with 'a big hammer'. A criminal does.

And criminals need to be arrested.
