I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Tom Wilkinson, yesterday. His portrayal of Lord Mansfield is a directing experience etched in my memory. Thru a fantastic career, I’m so glad he chose BELLE as part of the tapestry he leaves behind. Condolences to his family 🤍🕊️🙏🏾

Currently in the process of revisiting some favourites in my Blu-ray collection and have just rewatched Amma Asante’s wonderful 2013 film Belle. Gugu Mbatha-raw’s performance is so moving and I love Rachel Portman’s score. A powerful story, superbly told.

Amma Asante’s BELLE is a rare perfect film. It had elegant direction, an excellent script, a great ensemble led by the brilliant Gugu Mbatha Raw and stellar production values especially costumes & Rachel Portman’s original score.

It deserved Oscars. Or at least the nominations.
