S. aureus evolves in nose. There are pathogen-microbiome interactions - exchange of genes (including resistance); and pathogen-excluding commensals (which can keep S. aureus out).

Final session on #Staphylococcus biology, pathophysiology, vaccination and treatment at #ESCMIDGlobal2024 - great update by Andreas Peschel and colleagues - 20 y of S.aureus bactereamia treatment - look at the „progress“ made - strong quote by Steven Tong
S.aureus secretes several #bacteriocins to compete with other bacteria. Stephen Garrett et al. review the roles of S. aureus’ arsenal of proteinaceous toxins and #T7SS in interbacterial competition🦠⚔️. academic.oup.com/femsmicrobes/a…

Leading PIs of our cluster of excellence Controlling Microbes to Fight Infections discuss the future of research on pathogens and commensals to fight infections: Why do some bacteria cause infections? Can ecological insights help to prevent bacterial infections?

Led by Jakob T Rostøl and Nuria Quiles, with Lasa_Lab, we show that prophages utilise noncontiguous operons to balance immunity and autoimmunity. Our results underscore the essential fine regulation of these processes for prophages' life cycle development.
