1. Today it makes 3 years Azerbaijan started the 2nd large-scale war against #NagornoKarabakh #Armenians since 1990s, indigenous in their homeland for 3000 years, & de facto state of 30 years after having defended themselves against ethnic cleansing & declared independence.

Many thanks to Larisa Hovannisian, Laurence Broers, Eldar Mamedov and others who can't be named for their time and insights on this piece. 'Urgent' doesn't cover the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Behind terms like ethnic cleansing, refugees, and reintegration are human lives and faces. The tragedy in Nagorno Karabakh represents the human cost of war, aggression, and violence. Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh had names and faces; their lives are shattered, as are ours.

As thousands of forcibly displaced Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh/Artsakh are now flooding into Armenia, I'm curious to know what the United Nations office in Armenia with it's relevant agencies United NationsHCR United NationsICEF United NationsOCHA United NationsHumanRights is doing to alleviate the humanitarian catastrophe.

Following the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, full humanitarian access must be provided. Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians must be guaranteed safety and dignity. The UK should work with international partners, the EU, OSCE and UN to urge dialogue, respect for int law and human rights.

The sense of frustration with the Armenian government, with Russia, and with international institutions is intense. And likely to grow. eurasianet.org/despair-unease…

We urge the international community to protect the civilian population in Nagorno-Karabakh, prevent crimes against humanity in the region, & hold the Azerbaijani govt accountable for the wellbeing of Armenians in the region. (2/2)

After keeping Artsakh under siege for 9 months, starving the population, attacking sovereign Armenia, and now launching a large-scale offensive against Artsakh, it is clear that Baku's intent is to ethnically cleanse Arstakh of its indigenous people.
