Did you know? Rebecca Lee Crumpler was the first Black woman to earn a M.D. degree in the U.S. She spent her career caring for low-income Black mothers and children who had been denied medical care by white doctors.

There is a tendency to stop at the “broken places can be made beautiful” sentiment when we talk about healing. This Kintsugi process video shows the time, effort, patience and constant iterating it takes to get there. ❤️‍🩹

Call your reps. Demand a . Doctors are sheltering in place while power is cut off. Life sustaining machines no longer breathing for babies and adults alike. Our leaders have to recognize this for what it is and intervene. Generations of families are gone. ☮️

I have a feeling we’ll need to compile all the ways medicine justified a genocide

So I’m gonna start a thread & we can add onto it as people become more comfortable publishing their pro-genocide academic papers:

#1 - JAMA in which the bombing of hospitals is justified

Toni Morrison once said:
“The function, the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being. Somebody says you have no language and you spend twenty years proving that you do.

Wanted to extend my DM’s to any applicant, especially those who are Palestinian in the start of their medical career.

Doing interviews during this time is unimaginably painful.

Hoping I can help mentor or be a friend to someone going through the thick of it.

Here is the reality.

1. We are witnessing genocide of the Palestinian people.

2. The root cause of the death we are witnessing is Occupation.

3. The Israeli government is an oppressive regime who is actively creating propaganda to dehumanize both Palestinian people and Muslim

Covid still running rampant, we’re all living paycheck to paycheck & working 2-3 jobs, food/housing costs are unlivable, a new climate disaster every week & now we are watching a genocide unfold basically via livestream. No I have not made it a single day without crying in weeks.

Beautiful lecture given by my mentee Sanché Mabins, MD sharing her story and her art to highlight the role that programs play in protecting the mental health of trainees. Your environment isn’t equitable until EVERYONE has what they need to be happy and healthy.

It’s on the institutions to protect us. Admins care more about “patient satisfaction” & appearances than protecting nurses, techs, doctors, and other staff who are verbally assaulted or threatened with physical harm regularly.

Every hospital really should have a zero tolerance policy for mistreatment of staff. Especially in the a&o x3 patient. Idk why healthcare has this mentality that patients can act however they want. Patient behavior can be terrible and staff are just expected to deal with it
