There was an excellent turnout for my lecture this morning where I spoke on the topic of 'The public health significance of 1st April'.

I spent last week working in an NHS hospital office. Most of the other desks in the area were never used. I repeatedly hear from junior hospital doctors they don’t have adequate access to office space & PCs. Hospital managers should look at how efficiently they use office areas.

The pharmacy chain Boots says it will begin selling private Covid-19 vaccines for £99 next week, making the vaccine available on the UK high street. In the longer term, I can’t see a large market for private Covid-19 vaccines, which I predict will be only a very niche product.

Out with the old and in with the new. This is the office I will be moving into on Monday 25 March after 20 years in my previous office at Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith. The new office is in a recently built Imperial College London building in the White City area of London.

It’s very concerning to hear about the use of PAs on medical rotas. PAs cannot prescribe or order radiological tests, so this will limit how effectively & safely they can work in this capacity, where timely prescribing & investigations are essential. pulsetoday.co.uk/news/workforce…

The debate on GMC registration and regulation of physician associates and anaesthesia associates has almost entirely been conducted in medical journals on #MedTwitter ; and has largely been overlooked by the general public and the wider media despite its importance for the NHS.

After 20 years based at the Imperial College London Charing Cross Hospital Campus in Hammersmith, this is my last day in my current office (pictured) as I’ll be moving on Monday along with my department to a new purpose-built Imperial School of Public Health building in the White City in West London.

This serious assault on NHS staff illustrates the risks that frontline healthcare workers face. Many NHS staff – including myself – have been assaulted whilst going about their work. A zero tolerance policy along with suitable protection and risk reduction measures are essential.
