Glorious morning to record a CBS square BirdWatch Ireland on a rehabilitated cutaway bog. In just 3yrs, the transformation is magnificent: ✅️Reed, Bog cottongrass, Sally, Birch - colonising bare peat & open water
✅️ Ringed plover, Snipe, Lapwing, Swan, Reed bunting, etc now common
Yorkshire's moors are beautiful and at this time of year, there are birds nesting on the ground. If you're enjoying the #GreatNorthBog with your canine friends, please keep them on a lead. Thank you.
Don't forget that the #PeatlandCode public consultation is open until 20 May - this is your chance to comment on the draft Peatland Code Version 2.1.

Our incredible PPCV have been restoring this fantastic old dew pond in #Grindon which dates back all the way to 1745. 👏
It's refilling nicely now, welcoming the insects and plants to thrive there for many years to come. 🙌

Our Programme Manager Jane Akerman was at Featherbed Moss in the Peak District on Thursday. She helped to monitor Eyes on the Bog rust rods and used Richard Lindsay's condition matrix to assess experimental plots under the GGR-Peat project.
Sphagnum moss are a bit like #Gremlins : they multiply when you get them wet! 😉 #SphagnumMonday #GreatNorthBog

Peatlands can be windy places!
Here is a little behind-the-scenes look at the challenging conditions we faced filming our #PeatlandACTION case studies which highlights the tough environments those working in peatland restoration also have to navigate

This week for #SphagnumSaturday we are highlighting Sphagnum fallax, or Flat-Topped Bog Moss. Its colour can vary between green and mustard, depending on the time of year and its location. This bog moss can be identified by its 5-pointed, star-shaped leaves.
