Much I agree with here, but there are problems too with insisting on high quality generalist training for all hospital specialists. For clinical academics it’s becoming impossible to fit all this in, deliver world-class research, and CCT before 40+. More flexibility useful.

Thanks for writing this Waljit and colleagues. We seem be caught up in a relentless “war on excellence” the main casualties of which will be our best trainees, the quality of UK clinical science, and ultimately the well being of patients and the UK economy.
