The number of in England continues to fall. Based on the government’s pledge of an additional 6k more GPs by March 2024, we would expect there to be around 33,800 GPs as of December 2023, but data suggests there are only around 27,500.

The overall waiting list for planned care looks to have dropped again, by around 36,000 in February. However, this decrease is actually down to community service pathways no longer being included in the data. In reality, the number has remained flat.
