One of the very best transport buildings - a pure marriage of sculpture and engineering. Great photo too Best Impressions - it can be surprisingly difficult to capture well due to its scale.

Stagecoach operates the bus network on Orkney Mainland. A couple of routes are commercial; everything else is run under contract to Orkney Islands Council. Hence, I assume, this unique livery based on the logo of the Council’s Marine Services & Transportation dept.

Bad news from Chichester’s Festival of Britain-styled station (for which I have a soft spot; many details lost but would be restorable if anyone had the inclination). Its best remaining feature is the ticket office clock, but its hands have been missing for several weeks…

I’m leaving my day job, and Paul Webster (who took the 2nd photo) presented me with this very kind gift - my very own #DoubleArrow ! Made by Engineered Learning (a grand idea) it looks pretty faithful to me and a lot better than some official efforts I’ve seen at stations.

Today my travels took me over to Manchester, so naturally I have to share a picture of the huge tile map and splendid ticket office windows at Manchester Victoria!

With thanks to TfL colleagues for taking me round, I was finally able to get a good look at the Holden platform canopy at Highgate High Level, only ever used for a very limited steam service for 13 years, closed to public in 1954, and track lifted in 1972. Still looks good.

An observation... Crosscountry took over from Virgin in 2007 and in 16 years, they've never repainted the yellow nose on the Voyager fleet (see the silhouette) - genuinely impressive! Also... a small thread 🧵

This glass decoration design still to be found in some Class 158s, was (if I remember correctly) to be found on them all when originally built for BR. But does anyone know if it had any meaning? Deconstructed double arrows? Or was it only ever purely abstract?
