Rest in peace, Ian Heads. A giant of sports journalism, a gentleman, hard-nosed & humble, always available to pass on advice & give time to young hopefuls just starting out in the game. Thank you for all you did. Condolences to Phil, family, friends & former colleagues. ⌨️ 🖊️ 🙏

Ian Heads was a softly spoken gem with an unbridled passion for rugby league/NRL Headsy wrote the book on league journalism and many others with great aplomb. A confidante to anyone who shared his passion. Ian Heads didn’t need to play or coach to be a ‘great’ of the game. VALE

RIP Ian Heads. Great man, great journo, great rugby league writer. Always willing to help young journos coming through who benefitted hugely from his advice. From a great era in the game and when newspapers were king - and he was a big deal in both. They broke the mould with him.

Heartbroken to hear we lost Ian Heads today. So many of us have lost a dear and trusted friend. He gave so many journalists their start, and his constant support. Thoughts are with Ian’s family. The best of men; epitomised integrity.

Been trying to think of words to do justice to Ian Heads and his contribution to rugby league over 60 years.
I will remember Headsi as a true gentleman, a doyen of sports writing, a wonderful mentor, the most honourable man and an all-time great of our industry.

Very sad to hear of the passing of legendary rugby league and sporting journalist Ian Heads. Had the privilege of working with and under Headsy at the Telegraph. A nicer man you couldn’t wish to know. Superb writer. RIP legend. Telegraph Sport
