Rainy days over the weekend and freezing temps forecast for Mon. morning are causing multiple sections to close; Asheville area neighbors who enjoy the Parkway on their drive to work will be impacted. Check road status page on park website for updates.

Forecasts for winter weather across much of the Parkway region today and tomorrow mean gates in some sections of the park have closed or may be closing. Plan ahead with alternate routes if you encounter closed gates.

Snow & ice at high elevations closing some sections in WNC this morning. Mt. Mitchell (mp 355) to Ox Creek (mp375) is closed north of Asheville, and some southern closures bw mp 423 and 469. Watch for daily updates on the park's road status webpage at nps.gov/blri

With increased fire danger in NC & VA, a ban on backcountry campfires is now in place until further notice. This ban does not apply to front country, year-round picnic areas. Picnickers should ensure fires are extinguished completely.

Slope repairs between mp 121.4 and 136 are complete; that section is now open. Motorists are asked to be mindful of wildlife in the area when traveling in this section.

The Parkway will close from MP 91 to 112 (Rke, VA) at 5 pm on Sat and reopen at 2 pm on Sun; expect heavy traffic in and around this section. Southbound traffic should exit the Parkway onto Rt. 695/Goose Creek Valley Rd, and northbound traffic at MP 112 onto Rt. 24 E.
