On the one hand it's great to see disabled talent on a big stage. On the other, it is uncomfortable when institutions position disabled people in proximity to structural ableism. I can imagine some of those performers had really difficult decisions to make.

The hardest thing has always been using your voice only for people to then knowingly, willingly and continually choose to ignore you. When you know it's an active choice they are making and not ignorance, bc many voices have worked to make sure ignorance here is not an option.

I have a book coming out in five days. I just won a Royal Television Society Award for a show I co-wrote, based on my first book. I want to stay on Cloud 9.

but those books and stories? they come from somewhere. they don't come from thin air.

1) people are not 'confined' to wheelchairs. People USE wheelchairs.

2) Does this mean that in a show of this scale someone is cripping up in a wheelchair?

Cyclical conversations about casting disabled people and not using disabled aesthetics for fragility or pity...
