Even though afternoons will be toasty the next couple of days, the humidity will be at a comfortable level. That all changes by the weekend.

The annual warm weather burn ban in Alabama has begun. The purpose is to protect air quality in counties with heightened air pollution issues. Open burning is prohibited until October 31 for twelve Alabama counties.

Air Quality Alert for Jefferson and Shelby counties today! Ground level ozone becomes more prominent through the summer months as temperatures crank up under abundant sunshine. Chemical reactions are common in urban environments as pollutants react with heat and sunlight.

Looks like we will probably hit 90 degrees earlier than 'normal' this year. We've already been in a May-like pattern for the past few weeks, and now it looks like May could feel more like June at least in the early goings.

Slow moving storms dumped a band of heavy rain from Coker up to the city of Dora in Walker county. Estimated rainfall totals exceed 3' for some communities.

This week may welcome the warmest weather of the year so far as temperatures climb into the upper 80s Wednesday and Thursday. Feeling a little toasty heading into May with above average warmth.

Scattered thunderstorms are expected overnight across Central Alabama. Some storms may produce gusty winds in addition to heavy rain though we aren't concerned with a severe risk. It will not rain evenly, 0.5-1.0' amounts will be most common depending on where storms set up.

Catastrophic storms ripped across the central U.S. over the past few days. At least 150 tornadoes were reported over the weekend with surveys still underway.
