Great paper on a super important issue!

'Missouri’s policy conveyed...an average 7.6% salary increase among eligible teachers. Rural, white teachers, however, were the overwhelming beneficiary...with urban, suburban, Black, and Hispanic teachers nearly entirely excluded'

Jen Sieve Gontram Cameron Anglum MSTA One key finding:
In order to take a standard 12 weeks of paid parental leave, a teacher would need to bank all of their sick days for SIX years.
This does not account for the delayed onset typical for some benefit/leave policies.

Happy almost-Friday teachers!!! We have a new brief from Jen Sieve Gontram and Cameron Anglum analyzing variation in leave benefits across Missouri, using MSTA data. The brief discusses how leave policies might especially affect early career female teachers.

A paradox here is that districts operating 4day schl weeks today are overwhelmingly in conservative rural areas & expanding, tho we’re starting to see non-rural expansion too. My general take focuses more on liberals supporting these policies across the board…& conservatives?
