After witnessing Kristallnacht, Hedi Pope prepared to flee Nazi Vienna. Imprisoned in Dachau, her father encouraged her and her sister to emigrate without him. Hedi and her sister arrived in the US in 1939. Their father didn’t survive. She died recently at 103 in North Carolina.

OTD in 2015, passed away, aged 106.
He saved the lives of 699 Jewish children from the Nazi regime. In 2016 he featured in a set of Royal Mail stamps, honouring UK's greatest humanitarians & their achievements.

Choral conductor and composer Peter Erwin Lendvai was born in 1882. In 1933 he went into exile; first to Saarland, then Switzerland. In 1938, via Eastern Europe and Sweden, he escaped to England, where he worked as a music teacher in Norwich.
