The Queen has paid her first visit to The Royal Lancers in North Yorkshire, since becoming their Colonel-in-Chief.

The Lancers lie close to Her Majesty's heart as her father, Major Bruce Shand, served in the Regiment during the Second World War.

🎖️The Queen also presented five Buchan Medals, awarded to any serving or retired member of The Royal Lancers who has contributed in some conspicuous manner to the efficiency or military honour of the Regiment over a protracted period.

Whilst serving with the 12th Lancers, Major Bruce Shand won a Military Cross in 1940, during the withdrawal to Dunkirk, and again in 1942, during the Second Battle of El Alamein.

Today, The Queen was shown some special items, including a tunic, that belonged to her father.

The Queen, as Colonel-in-Chief of The Royal Lancers (Queen Elizabeths’ Own) is undertaking her first visit to the Regiment since being appointed as their Colonel-in-Chief in North Yorkshire today
