I've helped a young woman fill in her PIP paperwork recently. I had to bring her to my office as her anxiety was so acute she couldn't travel alone. She was sexually abused by her uncle in childhood. She waited 6 years to be inside a courtroom. Her anxiety was crippling.

This is what I wish I had been handed the day I walked into a children’s advocacy center with my daughter. One of the most important things you can do for a child reporting abuse is to support their protective parent to support their child.

We need journalists to go beyond the statistics and slogans to ask the hard questions about why our efforts to prevent violence against women are not producing results. We will not get a different outcome doing more of the same.
