They think they have it in the bag with Trump.

The problem is this is the most useless Congress in American history. They won't prepare properly, won't understand the issues, and will use this opportunity to grandstand pointlessly.

The single most important thing we can do to prevent a next laboratory-generated pandemic is to end gain-of-function research on potential pandemic pathogens
(the useless and reckless type of research that likely caused the COVID-19 pandemic).

The US has none--absolutely none--of this.

The US government does not stipulate containment levels, does not perform risk-benefit assessment, des not monitor most labs, does not apply punitive measures for most violations, and does not include public participation in debates.

By October 2021, just two years from the start of COVID-19, China's government had enacted legislation to prevent a next lab-generated pandemic.

In contrast, as of April 2024, the US government still has done nothing--absolutely nothing--to prevent a next lab-generated pandemic.
