#OTD - In 1969, 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗹𝗰𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘆 entered into force, establishing Latin America as the first densely populated nuclear-weapon-free zone. This treaty was a direct response to the heightened tensions experienced during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

This was a 40-hour, 8-stop flight. Quite a small aircraft for such a route (c.80 seats), possibly subject to a Foreign Office subsidy as embassies probably main customers.

It passes a VC10, its replacement on many routes.

On this day in 1949, the Netherlands annexed small parts of German territory as a compensation for the damages caused by the war. An area of 69 km2 was annexed. Almost all of this was returned to West Germany in 1963.
