Their proposal for a “Global Burden of Climate Change Study” is absolutely brilliant. We sorely need data on the premature deaths and diseases attributable to climate impacts so far — cc’ Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change Renee N Salas, MD, MPH Susan Anenberg, PhD journals.plos.org/climate/articl…

This week, treaty negotiators are weighing a proposed World Health Organization (WHO) system that would ensure global access to life-saving medicines and fund future science. Proud to share an open letter in nature from 290 scientists in 36 countries on why we support the proposal

It's not open science until everyone benefits. We're proud to stand with 290 scientists in 36 countries today in favor of the science-for-science mechanism in Article 12 of the proposed World Health Organization (WHO) Pandemic Agreement and call on other organizations to do the same nature.com/articles/d4158…

Proud to be a co-signatory alongside 290+ colleagues in this call for equitable vaccine access published nature
Despite the Global South providing crucial genomic data for vaccines, these countries remain at the back of the line for access. We must demand equitable distribution

This letter and piece was lead by Colin Carlson and Dr Alexandra Phelan in a true equitable authorship and partnership between Global South and Global North. It is time to unite to make sure that we learn from our mistakes and help to prepare the world to avoid a pandemic.

It is a crucial time to put pressure in government and police makers as the pandemic Agreement., The Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) System need to ensure equitable access to vaccines, diagnostics and therapies if we were to be better prepared to the next pandemic.

Developing countries, like Indonesia, produced key data on Flu that was used to vaccines, which they did not get access. The same with Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya genomes in Latin America and Brazil..

An important piece that we co-authored nature today on the need of benefit to countries producing pathogen data. Multiple vaccines were produced with variants discovered in Africa and Africa was at the end of the queue with 100,000s of avoidable COVID deaths. 1/n…

What happened to outbreak reporting during the pandemic? Unsurprisingly, some weird stuff (including a bit of a state shift on reporting of influenza spillover in China versus the rest of the world). Super proud of Ciara and this little report!

Super lucky to have been a part of this International Task Force on Disease Eradication meeting on climate change and health back in October, and great to see the proceedings out in the WHO Weekly Epidemiological Record today. Lots of key recommendations: iris.who.int/handle/10665/3…

There have been recent calls for World Health Organization (WHO) to declare Climate Change a Public Health Emergency of International Concern?

Is this legally possible?
