BREAKING NEWS! Coroner says urgent action is needed to protect the lives of cyclists using a pavement alongside the A217 in Tadworth.

The Coroner’s report says the footpath was less than half the width it should have been due to mud, grass and twigs.

Our review found that just 4 collisions took place at bus-stops between cyclists and pedestrians from 2020-22 - none on the crossing.

For context, over 11,400 pedestrians and 15,000 cyclists were injured in collisions with motor vehicles in the same period.

Bus-stop bypasses are used around the world to facilitate safe cycling on bus routes 🚲🚌

We cannot deliver safe cycling infrastructure without them.

Stopping their use would put cyclists' lives at risk, including disabled cyclists who use bikes as mobility aids.

But we know there's work to do to improve designs and cyclist behaviour.

Seems overly drastic to ban something that could be addressed by other means first?

Cycle lanes provide freedom and independence to people riding so many different types of bikes/mobility aids, disabled people, children & adults of all ages. Without these protected facilities, their lives are in danger, if they feel they can continue at all.

Nigel Havers here says 'I don't break the rules' when in his car. The same Nigel Havers who was arrested for drink driving in February 1990 and subsequently fined and banned from driving for one year.

Delighted to see this brand new “cycles only” space outside my local school: reclaiming a bit of car parking space for the hundred+ parents who need to drop off their kids on bikes and need somewhere to put them whilst they do so.
