When a pro athlete expresses this much deep remorse for using a gay slur, the LGBTQ community needs to accept it and move on.

We have more important issues to tackle than an athlete who clearly regrets what he did, like Jeremy Finlayson.

Daria Kasatkina, world No. 11, says she's gotten assurances from Saudi Arabia that she can sleep with her girlfriend at the WTA Finals there (it's illegal).

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is arresting women for speaking up.

Glad to see Jon Cooper take ownership of his comment about 'skirts' on goalies.

But this surely wasn't the first or second time he said this. I wonder how often this language is heard by his players and friends. Many gay athletes hear this and cringe.

11 years ago today, Jason Collins came out publicly, inspiring millions.

Ben Shapiro immediately jumped to embarrass himself by demeaning Collins' courage. He hasn't stopped since.

Cyd Zeigler As a gay Bolts fan, it didn't make me cringe because I knew what he meant. Just those who don't know the every day part of hockey wouldn't understand.

Cyd Zeigler By accepting this “punishment”, this slap on the wrist, you’re saying to the sporting community that, overall, the use of slurs is a ‘minor issue,’ something to move past and not focus on. Youre saying it’s ok if we don’t do the work to get that language out of the locker rooms.

Cyd Zeigler Awww... feewings hurt? A glaring one how Cooper after the game vs Washington went to check on a player he previously coached who had to be taken off on a stretcher last month.

Cyd Zeigler Secondly, your willingness and readiness to give him forgiveness is enablement at best. By saying we need to move on, by saying this isn’t important, you’re choosing to ignore the immensity of the ripples of harm something like this can do.

Cyd Zeigler I’m sorry but this is really giving an “I’m a straight apoligist” vibe. Mainly, to use a “heat of the moment” argument is to wholly invalidate the situation. It’s 2024. At this point if you drop a slur like that, it’s in your language frequently enough to be the first word said.

Cyd Zeigler Because the words don't sound like him. The series of events don't really add up. How he describes the player's reaction is simply absurd. I don't think he self-reported. I think he fessed up because it was caught on the microphone.
