A number of countries have imposed mandatory work pension policies to help people save for retirement. But do these policies just encourage people to reduce their own personal pension savings? David Burgherr looks at data from Switzerland: buff.ly/43W2JiW

Finally got around to reading this excellent study on migration response to abolishing some NonDom tax advantages in Britain. David Burgherr, Arun Advani, and Andy Summers show pretty modest migration responses to what turns out to be a substantial tax increase for NonDoms .

Impossible to argue with unreleased analysis but this differs a lot from the thorough work of Arun Advani
Andy Summers David Burgherr and others

They find that in general non-doms didn't emigrate last time the UK changed rules they just... paid more tax

Using a large tax reform affecting a subset of migrants to the UK, Arun Advani David Burgherr & Andy Summers find a relatively modest & precisely estimated emigration response of 0.26pp increase in emigration for 1% decline in net of tax rate. newsroom.iza.org/en/archive/res…

Great präsi by David Burgherr. This year I did not share the session with Dr. Isabel Z. Martínez #🟦; pros: less crowded room; contra: couldn’t see her new paper and will have to catch up 😊

David Sturrock David Burgherr A lot of excellent analysis there. Is there any evidence of consumerism/capitalism/gov.services being more efficient at extracting/charging more from the individual? ie. People born pre 70s spending less on services, material goods and stealth taxes?

David Burgherr LSE Business Review Great thread. However, I'm curious. What would a potential reform look like? Scrapping the ND status entirely would not increase tax revenue as much as people think...

Wonderful to see the fantastic work of Arun Advani David Burgherr Andy Summers, and initially resourced by LSE Inequalities reap such important rewards. Targeted, high quality academic research on inequalities is needed more than ever….
