Great new study led by Daniel Viana!
Finds that small-scale fisheries are CRITICAL for human health, including by providing nutrients like iron and calcium for people around the world.
Healthy small-scale fisheries means healthy oceans & healthy people!

'This data helps us understand the level of nutritional vulnerability that over 20 coastal populations will continue to face if mismanagement of SSF continues worldwide. Effective fisheries management is essential to public health,' said World Wildlife Fund's Daniel Viana.
First ever study to estimate nations' dependency on small-scale fisheries for nutrients reveals 32% of overall global seafood nutrient supply comes from small-scale, rather than global, fisheries.

Safe travels home Daniel Viana !! Thank you for all of your hard work on this trip. And for keeping a smile when I massacred you in dominoes 😂
Now the trip continues to the SE with Jessica Zamborain Mason and Miharifetra ANDO . Excited for my first visit to Health In Harmony ‘s site at Manombo
I’ve absolutely loved showing Jessica Zamborain Mason and Daniel Viana my corner of the world in #Madagascar . I’m so grateful to have such amazing collaborators and look forward to continued partnership in our #planetaryhealth research here Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health
Update from the field. We are at the North East of Madagascar. Such a magical place! I am in love with the location and the people. We visited our survey sites, hiked through the rainforest and did lots of in-water inspection! Excited for more to come! Christopher Golden Daniel Viana
Couldn’t be more proud of Jessica Zamborain Mason and Daniel Viana in leading a 3.5 day data science bootcamp at the Marine Sciences Institute (IHSM) here in #Madagascar . The students did 8-6 daily and never wanted to leave. So inspiring to see the passion of nextgen Malagasy scientists.
Excited to be a Rose Service learning fellow Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health to serve & learn from local communities in Madagascar. Our projects aim to work WITH the community to sustainably manage fishery resources & alleviate malnutrition Christopher Golden Daniel Viana hsph.harvard.edu/public-health-…
