One more thing: I've said this a million times, but violence reduction is a team sport and the team can't win if the individual players don't play well together. Buffalo is yet another example of a city learning this lesson over time.

Most of my work focuses on the prevention of the diversion of guns for use in crime. We’ve found firearm purchaser licensing laws are associated with lower rates of gun homicide, suicide, arrests for gun & violent crimes, shootings involving police as shooters or victims.

For too long, law enforcement leaders point to the number of guns recovered to justify practices that harm innocent individuals, alienate communities, and are often unconstitutional. We shouldn’t tolerate that.

Lots of replies to my post imply that I’m anti-police or don’t want police to enforce gun laws. Wrong. Read the links of what I’ve written on this you will see calls for more focus and accountability given well-documented harms of practices exemplified by the CPD unit’s history.
