Last night, when we heard the news of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw cancelling two concerts of the Jerusalem Quartet due to the current geopolitical situation, we were shocked. I texted my friend Danny Driver דני דרייבר and within about 20 minutes we got this going:

Please share widely to protest against the cancellation of the Jerusalem String Quartet’s concerts at the Concertgebouw this week.

Music that I find perpetually nourishing, thought-provoking, and spine-shivering. I grew up playing the piano quartets, but was ignorant of his sublime piano music.

A lovely time over the weekend playing J S Bach’s Goldberg Variations Oxford May Music Festival to such a warm and appreciative house. I grabbed a quick selfie with Jack Liebeck’s beautiful Molly beforehand; she later proceeded to wander into the hall around Variation 21 SJE Arts

So I’ve been busy the last three weeks, working towards this. ⬇️

So many happy memories of time over 35 years with Sir Andrew Davis. His laughter was infectious, his music making natural and inspiring, his commitment to new and British music unwavering. So many reasons to mourn his loss but celebrate the joy and privilege of having known him.

Very much looking forward to seeing my dear friends in Glasgow next season for the European première of Lyell Cresswell’s Piano Concerto no. 3!
