My problem with the 'why can't PAs just sit the same assessment' philosophy. Exams/assessments/training programs do not live in a vacuum. They rely on a candidate having completed a prior curriculum so that any examination can focus on stage appropriate content. 🧵1/n

To all the PAs and permanent members of staff. Please don’t call F1s useless (especially brand new ones). They are thrown in at the deep end. They don’t know anyone. More often than not the don’t know the hospital or where anything is. They are having to make decisions 1/n

I thought the “advantage” of being a PA was continuity of care because they were non-rotational?

Ah. The Exceptionalism argument.

Two problems with this.

Medicine has generally rejected Exceptionalism. Not only is everyone held to the same standards, but loopholes are closed up when 'exceptional' candidates buck the system.

E.g.. FRACP exams in Australia have

Firstly they say it is wrong to bill a consultation item on an intubated ICU patient - this is something I do routinely as I continue to be actively responsible for their care whether they are conscious or not. Admittedly I can get paid a princely sum of almost $50 for this.

Matt Nash Balazs Jan Hansel Dr Huw Matt Burton Dr Done FICMNews See the problem I have entering this as a tangent is that you have regurgitated a load of NHS management sound-bites that are of little substantive value. I don't necessarily think you're dishonest, I wonder if you even have insight into how vapid what you just wrote is. 1/2

As General Practice dies, I wanted to write a reflection as to why. It's not about the evidence. We know that General Practice is the cheapest and most effective part of the health system. Here is the evidence in mental health for patient satisfaction.

PAs: only my supervisor can determine my competency and scope of practice

Drs: determines competency and scope of practice

PAs: no, not like that

Please read Trisha Greenhalgh 🧵. Royal College of Physicians officers appear to have acted in bad faith - the raw data from survey in NO way reflects summary slides presented at
Releasing data midway during voting is wrong

We don’t have interns on at night in aus because they need to work under full supervision

PAs are less trained then interns, more liable, can offer less, and nights can get incredibly busy

Why would you want to make nights more difficult for registrars?

Wow, they lied & lied badly. Well done to 𝗗𝗿 𝗔𝗷𝗮𝘆 𝗠 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮 and others for pushing back and getting the data.

Sorry, but the entire senior team must resign now. This is a disaster for them. You cannot just lie like this, to a membership and others, and expect still to expect to lead

Wow it seems somebody has uploaded the EGM meeting of Royal College of Physicians on YouTube.

The public and media can see for themselves now how senior officers:
💥 refused to answer patient safety questions,
💥refused to answer what role PAs bought to MDT
💥purposefully rambled to run out…

Yesterday 6pm, the RCPEGM was leaked by an anonymous account onto YouTube. Having watched it, these are some of the most jaw-dropping moments I heard, some not even factually true. Everyone should watch it for themselves though and make up their own mind. Link at the end.

Seems the deputy registrar also quite likes magician associates given he conveniently decided to make one of his main conflicts of interest ✨disappear ✨ (but not very well)

Listen to Professor Dean here at the and then listen to what he had said earlier in an interview with the BBC News (UK) when it comes to PAs and them prescribing and ordering imaging

He clearly states the NEED for PAs to be able to do so ASAP once regulation kicks in.
