Today I have resigned from the editorial board of FHJ, an Royal College of Physicians journal

An institution that’s been around as long as the RCP will always see bumps in the road, but at the moment the college appears on a downward trajectory #RCPEGM

Royal College of Physicians #RCPEGM highlights:

1. RCP has financial interest in PAs
2. BMA membership = declaration of interest
3. No evidence that PAs have any negative impact
4. Retired physicians vote, trainees do not

The express purpose of doing a survey was for the non-voting membership to be able to share their views at the #RCPEGM so as to inform voting decisions.
Inexplicable therefore to so clearly bias the results and then refuse to release the actual data until after voting.

This is the worst resignation letter I’ve ever read. #RCPEGM

No acknowledgement.
No apology.
Pure contempt.

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse.

The #RCP have done it again. After alienating > 98% of doctors with this stupid statement which resulted in an embarrassing climb down, now they clearly care more about PAs than junior doctors. Why can’t junior doctors have a say on this!?

Meanwhile in the raw results, 97% (ninety-seven percent) of IMTs had a “negative or neutral” view regarding the impact of PAs on training opportunities…

How was it considered acceptable to present the data in such a misleading manner?

The decision by the Royal College of Physicians to slow the roll-out of Physician Assistants is not yet decided; voting by Fellows is still open.

Only those with FRCP can vote.

Make sure that any Fellows you work with vote for all of the #RCPEGM motions

Some of you lot are celebrating way too early. There needs to be a second EGM for two good reasons

1. To vote on the original unamended wording for motion 5

2. To ensure that a PRCP cannot act in this way again for fear of being ousted.

Sorry to say- It’s a bit late now folks.

The issue is now well beyond a few individuals being shut down.

Pausing the process is now formal position of Royal College of Physicians as per #RCPEGM

Deeply concerned by #RCPEGM and need senior advice/thoughts
1) Is this academic misconduct? Deliberately obfuscating data by grouping like this making it impossible to tell strength of signal
2) The above, straight before a vote with consequences that can/will affect patient care

Opaque and disingenuous, thank you for requesting the raw data

Disappointed that the RCP has allowed a platform for retirees to pontificate (at length) about matters that ultimately do not affect them, whilst excluding trainee representation. #RCPEGM

Everything a PA studies in their short 2 year course is studied by a doctor in their medical degree in far greater levels of detail and complexity.

PAs do not bring unique skills, knowledge or training to the MDT.
