This. ⬇️ We cannot cover these killings as episodic events. I recently taught young reporters the importance of providing detailed nuance about how history connects to today. What happened in Jacksonville follows centuries of racist violence committed against Black Americans.

We cannot shy away from calling racist acts of violence exactly what they are. Stating this clearly is indeed fact based reporting — which is supposed to be the tenet of journalism.
