β€˜I may not be able to remember your name, so please remember mine.’ We love how residents of Maidstone Care Centre are getting their point across. A great reminder that people living with dementia don’t want to be patronised from @RCHhomes

Aware of 3 end of life care patients being called by a name they didn’t routinely use during hospital admissions.
Bonkers this can happen in this day and age. Bonkers. Devastating. Imagine.

Everyone in work calls me Dave. Drives me insane. My name is David. I always introduce myself as David. My email signature is David. What nearly tipped me over the edge is when they bought me a personalised mug for my birthday, with, yes you guessed it, DAVE written on it.

A great start to the conference. This is a conference not to be missed! Really enjoyed listening about and patients voice.
I am looking forward to speaking at 14:30 and hearing from other students :)

Absolutely love this...!

Respect for patients is so important and always best to ask them how they would like to be called, ideally from the outset

I often record this in the patients notes too together with some personable information which can be recalled at next visit

Deepa Bose (she/her) β€˜My name is ..…. and I am…… What would you like me to call you?’

Partly because some people may not actually by their given name (the campaign highlights this well), but also that way the patient can set the tone in terms of formality.

I’m sorry for Mary Ann and everyone that cared for her.
It is sadly not a unique event in healthcare.
We should change that -

Using patients' names reminds us they are unique human beings.

In 2023 Worcestershire Acute NHS asked 93,115 patients what they preferred to be called.
29.83% of the time it was not their formal first name.
That is 28,678 people.
Names matter - especially in healthcare.

Great campaign, #CallMe: Mike McCabe.
Names matter.
They tell who we are.
They reach us through confusion & fear.
Many people aren't called by their 'first name.'
Some don't identify with it at all.
Ask.
Record.
Remember.
Respect.

Liam Fox MP As a current NHS doctor it makes me sad and angry how the NHS has been so run down in 13 years that I’m treating elderly patients waiting in chairs for 10 hours to be seen and 36 hours for a hospital bed - any rational person would say this is unethical and unforgivable.
