This thread is a master class in Medicine 3.0 (preventing and lowering risk) as Peter Attia would describe it.

We could draw similar lines with APOE4 status and Alzheimer’s risk.

Knowledge is power … in people who would act on that info and not be paralyzed with anxiety :)

Great study looking at super agers.

APOE = largest genetic risk variant but other endolysosomal and inflammatory genes play a large role in longevity and lowering dementia risk.

Very cool work from my Mayo colleagues differentiating the brain networks and clinical symptoms differentiating behavioral clinical syndrome vs dysexecutive clinical syndrome

The pendulum has swung too far.

Penalizing falls in the hospital has resulted in patients who aren’t allowed to get out of bed.

They get weaker, depressed, constipated, pressure ulcers and ultimately need SNF placement.

Ambulation should be viewed as a key to healing.

We need personalized medicine sooner than later.

There are many barriers currently to making APOE genotyping common practice in the US:

1) Long term care insurance loophole of genetic protection act
2) cost/insurance coverage
3) genetic counseling of results
