Starting (for the zillionth time) with some #MondayMotivation to sort through so many memory cards of photos...
Just spotted these in time for a #MosaicMonday pic!

#MosaicMonday brings us to the #BathsofCaracalla where the gigantic #mosaic floors still in situ show us precisely what we don't expect from #Caracalla , a magnificent elegance on a grand scale not found elsewhere in #Rome .
We finish the day with Bournemouth Arch & Anth out and about at Fishbourne Fishbourne Roman Palace with Keir ‘The Mattock’ the excellent Huxley CuratorRob and a spectacular cake (courtesy of Mrs Symmons)
Oh, and these bad boys

The Brantingham Tyche Mosaic ~ C4th–C5th CE
Get in touch with your lucky side with Tyche who embodied good fortune. She doesn’t look best pleased herself but hopefully that’s all about to turn around!

For #MosaicMonday , a curious fragment in The Bardo, Tunis, photographed in 2012. An image of Minerva held up by an anguipede giant (snakes for legs). A reflection? Strange but lovely.
Excavation of the “Sunray” or shell mosaic at Verulamium, 1930, from a sheet of amateur snaps. Lexi Diggins #Dig4Arch might like this - a very similar book of snaps is on display in her super Women Doing Everything exhibition St Albans Museums

A great site - Alderney's small Roman fort in the background, too. Incredible preservation! Next to the sea, and a golf course! #RomanSiteSaturday #LoveAlderney
#GrimesGraves new visitor centre opening, it was a bit different when I visited with Gale Sieveking in the 1970s. Descending the shaft we crawled through the galleries. The highlight of the exhibition was the clay thumbprint on the antler. Durotriges Project

In May 1968 Fishbourne @Romanpalace museum opened to huge press interest
The #SundayTimes cover was of king *Cogidubnus* by the talented Michael Leonard

Don't know who it was based on, but it's an undeniably dramatic image of the Romano British king 🤩
One of the earliest recreations of Fishbourne Fishbourne Roman Palace is this stunning painting by Michael Leonard (1933-2023) 🤩
Featuring a merchant approaching with servants and a trunk of samples, it featured in a 1968 The Times and The Sunday Times article
