Shockingly, before today there was no unified standard for safeguarding children in out-of-school settings in the UK. This evening Shona Minson and I were honoured to be invited to the launch of the new BSI UK standard. Thank you, PrisonPhilanthropist and BSI for this important work

And then everyone will forget like they did when two babies died in womens prisons.

What’s the plan? Who is going to change anything….? I have been waiting for two decades and watched it all get worse.

There are seven girls held in the adult female estate. Its costs near on £250,000 a year to keep them there. They come out worse and no body seems to be able to do anything about it….I find it genuinely fascinating and horrifying. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-684701…

I have been saying for months now that panicked /inadequate recruitment/training to replace thousands of years of experience driven out of the service would result in disaster. We need a fundamental independent review of selection/recruitment/training/. Lives may depend on it.

Well done HMI Prisons for constantly bringing attention to this. One day a politician will appear who will grip this…..I hope.
