For British Science Week we are out visiting local schools. Biological development is a fundamental concept that is accessible at age 5 to 18. We are teaching both ends of this range. How many of these species can you identify? Plymouth Science Park @plymouthbiol University of Plymouth Dr Jamie McCoy

Maria, a placement student from Chile, can atest to it being a balmy 5 degrees in the Plymouth Science Park SmartPond today. More great data from the ElectricBlue EnvLoggers and reassuring to finally see a drop in temperature in the UK to something closer to a seasonal norm.

Key advantages of 'Energy Proxy Traits' are that they:
* Work across species
* Work across developmental stages
* Contain signals from specific physiological traits that themselves can be extracted and quantified
* Are high-dimensional and data rich
* Are high-throughput

Early development is the most dynamic period of life and choosing what to measure is akin to a luck dip. To overcome this we have been pioneering the use of phenomics approaches to measure 'everything that is visible', but as energy in the fluctuations of pixel values.
